The government of Malawi recently granted Hope Channel a private broadcast license. Joe Sloan has this story and more updates from the Adventist Church’s official television network.
Four Hope Channel programs have won national awards for broadcast excellence, Dawn of Hope, World of Hope, Vital Signs and Parker’s Puzzle each received Telly awards honoring the finest in film and television production for outstanding local, regional and cable TV programs. Vital Signs received two Telly’s and World of Hope received it’s second overall award. This year the Telly awards received entries from more than twelve thousand advertising agencies, production companies, television stations and broadcast corporations from around the world. Previous Telly award winning Hope Channel programs include cooking vegetarian. My Story, My Song Australia and Life’s Beat.
The African nation Malawi has granted Hope Channel a rare private broadcast license in an effort by the government to expand television coverage. Previously the only station allowed in Malawi was government owned and out of thirty six applicants for a license, Hope Channel is only one of six that received permission to begin broadcasting. The license allows Hope Channel to set up nation wide coverage to nearly fourteen million people in the South Central African nation. To meet the requirements of the nation however, Hope Channel must provide significant local content and begin broadcasting within the next twelve months. For Hope Channel, I’m Joe Sloan.
